Several adjustment options allow the use of a wide variety of MM or MC cartridges. And with 9 mm vertical height adjustment at the tonearm base the vertical tracking angle can be easily adjusted.

The Onkyo M-80 Power Amplifier uses a three-stage Inverted Darlington Amplifier. This three-stage Inverted Darlington Amplifier has a very low output impedance and powerfully drives speakers with a large current. Additionally, by keeping NFB (negative feedback) low, it’s not affected by extra noise from the speaker, offering a powerful yet highly resolving and informative sound. The M-80’s output stage transistors are in parallel configuration, providing excellent instantaneous current supply capability, further enhancing the rise of sound and the sense of power. The driver stage of the M-80 amplifier uses DIDRC (Dynamic Intermodulation Distortion Reduction Circuitry) which reduces noise in the ultra-high frequency band with DIDRC’s High Slew Rate Design and helps produce the natural sound of an analog record.

The addition of high-quality 10000uF capacitors custom-made exclusively for Onkyo, Hi-Fi grade terminals (both speaker output and audio input terminals), copper bus bars, and a robust vibration-proof front panel ensure powerful, world-class playback.

The M-80 has an output power of 130w(FTC, 8Ω, 20Hz - 20kHz, THD 0.08%, 2ch driven) / 200w(4Ω, 1kHz, THD 0.7%, 2ch driven) which allows it to powerfully drive large speakers and bring you dynamic acoustic information. For example, Klipsch Forte speakers paired with the P-80 and M-80 would maximize the dynamic and extended sound of the Forte.

DIDRC (DYNAMIC INTERMODULATION DISTORTION REDUCTION CIRCUITRY)

Thanks to patented DIDRC (Dynamic Intermodulation Distortion Reduction Circuitry), the Onkyo P-80 Preamplifier delivers a vivid yet smooth and comfortable sound from any music source. DIDRC is a discrete signal control circuit developed to make digital sound sources such as CDs and music streaming services sound as natural as analog records. This technology has been further refined and is used in the P-80’s analog filter of the DAC and phono amplifier circuits.

FOUNDATIONAL FOR DISTORTION-LESS SOUND

Combine a fan-less design that eliminates noise, a premium stereo DAC (32bit / 768kHz) that reduces distortion, and an extrusion aluminum heat sink for vibration suppression, and this preamp lays a solid foundation for superior sound.

RIGIDITY FOR SEISMIC RESISTANCE

The P-80 housing consists of two aluminum side panels and a steel top panel. This three-piece housing construction increases rigidity and improves seismic resistance. The “oval chassis” with oval press lines strengthens the bottom surface and disperses vibration for altogether improved sound quality.

FURTHER DISTORTION REDUCTION

Hi-fi grade terminals, quality capacitors, and rigid front panels further reduce vibration and signal degradation. The P-80 has a phone circuit independent of other circuits. The P-80 is compatible with both MM and MC cartridges. The MC circuit is designed as discrete and accurately reproduces the output signal of a tiny MC cartridge without distortion.

A preamplifier receives the input signal from your device (music source) and applies tone controls to that signal. You have more control over your audio playback in terms of bass, treble, volume, and more. When Fidelity IQ (Auto Loudness function) is turned on, the system automatically provides optimal audio playback according to any volume in conjunction with the master volume. (This function operates independently of Tone Control and can be used in conjunction with Tone Control. Parameters are generated for the viewing environment using the setup microphone during initial setup.) But this Auto Loudness feature goes beyond correcting loudness characteristics. Onkyo’s sound quality engineers adjust the frequency response to provide the most emotional sound possible, regardless of musical genre. Select your source, tweak settings to your liking – which may vary depending on the speakers you listen through, the type of audio being played, the genre of music, etc. – and customize the experience accordingly.

SKY 40 - S Step-Up Transformer

SKY 40 - S Step-Up transformer. This is a step up (pun intended) from the SKY 40 Step-Up transformer. It is heavier and meatier than the SKY 40 and the core material is heavier resulting in a slightly taller transformer than the prior SKY 40. It has the same ratios (1:20 in LOW and 1:40 in HIGH). If your system is very revealing, you will notice the difference. It was hard to upgrade the SKY 40. We tried many combinations and found that by increasing the weight and length of the core, we could also change the winding scheme to reduce capacitance. You will "Hear the Magic."
